In 2016, my husband was diagnosed with an extremely severe painful and debilitating rare autoimmune disease. Conventional medicine told us this acute phase of his illness could last between 2-5 years. I decided to dive deep into natural medicine- researching and studying everything and anything I could to learn about gut health to get him well. I learned the power of using food as medicine firsthand, and in one year, he was in remission. I am grateful for this experience and what it taught me about the power of food.
Being his primary caretaker, after a year of him dealing with chronic symptoms, the stress had affected and changed me to where I no longer recognized myself. Even though I had gained 20 pounds, internally were my deepest struggles.
Being an extremely active and fit person for years, I was left completely burned out, with severe fatigue, hormonal imbalances including estrogen dominance, thyroid issues, adrenal burnout, weight gain, skin issues, trauma, depression… you name it. I don’t want to bore you with a list of my complaints, but through all of this, I learned the value of food as medicine, and honoring your body’s natural healing process, learning patience and perseverance.
I’m here today, back to my original weight, stronger than ever before, with more energy, determination and motivation. My hormones balanced out, and I feel like myself again! All of this was possible by the traditional/ancestral food and lifestyle choices that I made, honoring “sacred” foods in my everyday diet.
